How Lang Forge Works, Step by Step
This page is a written walk-through of Lang Forge, in the order you meet its screens in the WordPress admin. Steps marked Pro need the separate Lang Forge Pro add-on; everything else is in the free plugin.
1. Add your languages
Install and activate Lang Forge, then go to Lang Forge → Settings. Add the languages you need and choose how language URLs look: a directory such as /fr/, a query parameter, a subdomain, or a separate domain per language.
2. Translate a post or page by hand
Open any post, page or custom post type. Set its Post Language, then look at Translations: press + Create next to a language to start its translation, or Link to attach a translation you already wrote. Each translation is its own post, linked to the original.
3. Let AI translate it (Pro)
In a translation post, press AI Translate from EN (the code is the language you translate from). AI translation uses AI credits. Then press Check Quality to review the result. When the original changes later, the translation shows Content Changed: use Show Changes to see what changed and Mark as Current once the translation is up to date.
4. Edit side by side (Pro)
The Visual Editor, under Lang Forge → Translations, shows the original and your translation side by side. The Pro add-on also integrates with Elementor and ACF, adds frontend translation, and adds Import / Export of XLIFF and CSV files under Tools.
5. Translate strings and menus
Under Lang Forge → Translations, String Translation covers the text that your theme and plugins output, and Menu Translation covers your navigation menus. Both are in the free plugin.
6. Add the language switcher
Show visitors the languages with the language switcher widget, with the [langforge_language_switcher] shortcode, or in the admin bar. The widget has a Style setting (Dropdown, List, Flags only or Plain (unstyled)) and a Show flags checkbox.
7. Cover SEO and WooCommerce
Lang Forge prints hreflang tags, including x-default, for every translated URL and generates an hreflang sitemap, with no manual markup. For WooCommerce, open a product and use the same language panel as for a post; product categories, tags and store strings such as cart and checkout labels can be translated too.
8. Coming from another plugin?
The free plugin can import your setup from WPML, Polylang or TranslatePress. Your current plugin stays installed and untouched until you confirm the result.
