Supported Languages — Translate WordPress into 100+ Languages

Lang Forge supports translation of WordPress sites into every language WordPress itself supports — over 100 languages and regional variants — and every language our AI providers can handle. Below is the full list, grouped by region, with notes on AI translation quality, RTL support, and locale-specific formatting.

What “supported” means in Lang Forge

A language is fully supported in Lang Forge if:

  • You can add it as a target language in the admin UI
  • URLs are generated correctly for that language in your chosen format (directory, parameter, subdomain, or domain mapping)
  • Hreflang tags use the correct language and locale codes
  • The language switcher displays the name and (optionally) flag correctly
  • AI translation works for the language (via GPT-4o or DeepL, whichever the router picks)
  • RTL (right-to-left) layout is applied automatically when appropriate

European languages

Western Europe: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Portugal), Italian, Dutch, Flemish, Luxembourgish, Irish, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Catalan, Basque, Galician

Nordic and Baltic: Swedish, Norwegian (Bokmål and Nynorsk), Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian

Central and Eastern Europe: Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Russian

Southern Europe: Greek, Albanian, Maltese

Regional variants: French (Canada, Belgium, Switzerland), German (Austria, Switzerland), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and more)

Asian languages

East Asia: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Mongolian

Southeast Asia: Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog (Filipino), Burmese, Khmer, Lao

South Asia: Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu, Sinhala, Nepali

Central Asia: Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Tajik, Azerbaijani

Middle Eastern languages (including RTL)

RTL languages (right-to-left layout, fully supported):

  • Arabic (including regional variants: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon)
  • Hebrew
  • Persian (Farsi)
  • Urdu
  • Kurdish (Sorani)
  • Pashto
  • Divehi

When you activate an RTL language, Lang Forge automatically:

  • Adds dir="rtl" to the <html> element on translated pages
  • Loads RTL CSS if your theme supports it
  • Flips layout direction for all Lang Forge UI elements (language switcher, admin screens)

Other Middle Eastern languages: Turkish, Armenian, Georgian

African languages

Swahili, Afrikaans, Amharic, Zulu, Xhosa, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Somali, Malagasy, Kinyarwanda

AI translation quality varies by language. For widely-spoken African languages (Swahili, Afrikaans, Amharic, Zulu), quality is generally good. For less-resourced languages, the AI output may need more human editing than European languages typically require.

Languages of the Americas

Indigenous: Quechua, Aymara, Mayan languages, Guaraní, Haitian Creole

Colonial: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese (with regional variants for each country)

Pacific languages

Hawaiian, Māori, Samoan, Tongan, Fijian

Constructed and classical languages

Lang Forge supports classical and constructed languages if you need them: Latin, Ancient Greek, Esperanto. AI translation quality for these is experimental and depends on the provider.

Language codes

Lang Forge uses standard ISO 639-1 and ISO 639-2 language codes, with optional ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country suffixes for regional variants:

  • en — English
  • en-us — English (United States)
  • en-gb — English (United Kingdom)
  • de — German
  • de-at — German (Austria)
  • zh-cn — Chinese (Simplified, Mainland China)
  • zh-tw — Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan)
  • pt-br — Portuguese (Brazil)
  • es-mx — Spanish (Mexico)

The full list of codes is visible in the Lang Forge language picker.

AI translation quality by language tier

Based on benchmark testing, Lang Forge’s AI translation (via GPT-4o and DeepL) produces these rough quality tiers:

Tier 1 — excellent (post-edit light touch):

English ↔ German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified)

Tier 2 — very good (review before publish):

Most other major European and East Asian languages, Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian

Tier 3 — good (human review recommended):

South Asian languages, Central Asian languages, most Southeast Asian languages, widely-spoken African languages

Tier 4 — experimental:

Classical languages, constructed languages, and less-resourced regional languages

How to add a language

  1. Go to Lang Forge → Languages in your WordPress admin
  2. Click Add Language
  3. Search for the language by name or code
  4. Choose whether the default URL structure for this language is directory, parameter, subdomain, or domain
  5. Save — the language is now active and ready for translation

Your language switcher picks it up automatically, and your site is ready to receive translated content for the new language.

Don’t see your language?

If you need a language that isn’t in the standard list, contact us. WordPress itself supports a long tail of languages and regional variants, and we can usually add anything that WordPress supports.
