WooCommerce Multilingual — Translate Your Online Store

Lang Forge treats WooCommerce as a first-class citizen. Not a half-documented integration. Not a “WooCommerce-compatible” checkbox. Core store surfaces — products, categories, attributes, cart language switching, store pages, interface strings, and shared product meta such as price/SKU/stock — are translatable or synchronized out of the box.

Integration scope note: Advanced WooCommerce extensions, custom checkout plugins, subscription/booking flows, payment-provider emails, shipping calculators, and heavily customized transactional email templates should be verified per store. We mark those as beta/manual QA rather than promising every commercial extension works automatically.

The problem with WooCommerce translation

Running a multilingual WooCommerce store is harder than running a multilingual blog. A blog post is one piece of content. A product is a title, a short description, a long description, a list of attributes, a set of variations, a category tree, a set of tags, and sometimes a dozen custom fields layered on top. Then you have the cart page, the checkout page, the “My Account” area, the order confirmation emails, and the shipping labels — each with their own set of strings.

Most WordPress translation plugins handle maybe half of that well. Lang Forge covers the core WooCommerce flow because WooCommerce support was part of the specification on day one; extension-specific behaviour still needs site-level QA.

What Lang Forge translates in your WooCommerce store

Products

  • Title, short description, long description, purchase note, slug
  • Attributes (name and values)
  • Variations (names, descriptions, SKUs if translatable)
  • Product categories (name, slug, description)
  • Product tags (name, slug, description)
  • Custom product meta (via ACF, Field Forge, or plugin-specific fields)
  • Featured image and gallery alt text
  • SEO meta (via Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, SEOPress, TSF)

Cart and checkout

  • Cart page strings (labels, buttons, coupon field, totals)
  • Checkout page (billing and shipping labels, payment method labels, order notes field)
  • Order summary and confirmation
  • “Thank you” / order-received page

Customer account area

  • “My Account” labels and buttons
  • Order history
  • Address book
  • Downloads
  • Lost password and reset flows

Transactional emails

  • New order email to admin
  • Processing, completed, refunded, cancelled, on-hold order emails to customer
  • Customer invoice email
  • Customer new account email
  • Password reset email

Every email goes out in the customer’s language, not the store’s default.

Shipping and payment

  • Shipping zone names and method labels
  • Payment gateway titles and descriptions
  • Tax labels

Coupon codes

  • Coupon descriptions
  • Discount messages

Currency formatting per language

Different locales use different currency formatting. English-speaking customers expect $1,299.00. German customers expect 1.299,00 €. French customers expect 1 299,00 €. Lang Forge applies the correct formatting automatically based on the visitor’s language, using WooCommerce’s native currency filters.

You can also configure a different currency per language — for example, USD for English visitors and EUR for German visitors — with live exchange rates or fixed overrides, depending on your setup.

Price sync across languages

When you update a product price in the source language, Lang Forge can sync that change to every translated version automatically. No “sync” button. No cron job. The update propagates when you save the post.

This works for:

  • Regular price
  • Sale price
  • Stock level and stock status
  • Weight, dimensions, shipping class
  • Tax class
  • SKU (if kept in sync)
  • Downloadable file URLs
  • Product visibility settings

You can opt out per field if you want some fields to diverge between languages (e.g., a different SKU format per region).

Translated URLs for products and categories

Every translated product gets its own indexable URL in your chosen URL format:

  • Directory: site.com/en/product/blue-jacket/ and site.com/de/produkt/blaue-jacke/
  • Parameter: ?lang=de
  • Subdomain: de.site.com/produkt/blaue-jacke/
  • Domain mapping: site.de/produkt/blaue-jacke/

Hreflang tags link them together automatically so Google understands they’re the same product in different languages, and returns the right version in the right country’s search results.

AI translation for WooCommerce content

Every field above can be translated with AI. From the Products list, select multiple products and run a bulk AI translation. The cost is estimated before the job starts. Background processing means you can queue hundreds of products and walk away.

WooCommerce extension compatibility

Lang Forge is designed to coexist with common WooCommerce extensions, but extension-specific data should be verified before launch. Current beta/manual QA targets include:

  • WooCommerce Subscriptions
  • WooCommerce Bookings
  • Gift cards
  • Custom product fields from ACF or Field Forge
  • Popular shipping calculator extensions

If you’re running a specific WooCommerce extension and want to know about compatibility, get in touch — we’ll tell you whether it has been verified, whether it needs manual setup, and what to test before launch.
